Їсти
[2020]Textile, Place-based
Їсти (eat) is a self directed project as a response to teachings of the Fibreshed Field School program. The emphasis on connection between ancestry and land led me to wonder how we can share deeper cultural connections within the context of friendship.
I coiled a daylily and nettle trivet and knit a hand-spun wool potholder to ground a culturally significant meal of mine [голубці (holubsti), and пиріжки (pirozhki)] which I shared with my closest friends. The recipes used were passed down through generations of my family who are Ukrainian settlers who farm the prairies of Alberta.
